Afghanistan country impact: Visual minutes
This “visual minutes” sketch mirrors our research on Afghan women’s cultural resilience in conflict. It traces the arc from forced displacement – marked by trauma, isolation and urgent needs for shelter, food, water and healthcare – to longer-term recovery through education, skills training, job access and collaboration with host communities.
Central to this process are the embroidered crafts and looms women carry with them – as acts of resistance, sources of income and anchors of identity both inside Afghanistan and in exile. By highlighting intergenerational learning, women’s networks and small enterprises, the image underscores how cultural practices drive economic agency, psychosocial well-being and peacebuilding, even amid ongoing gendered hardships.
